Arriving Late to School in the Morning

Parents,

A number of Harmon students are persistently arriving late for school in the morning. Please note that students should be on site at 7:15 a.m. ready to start lessons at 7:25 a.m. When students arrive late, they miss out on essential instructions given at the beginning of the lesson.  This can significantly reduce achievement, regardless of academic ability.  Your child may also feel awkward arriving to the classroom when everyone else is settled. Furthermore, when one pupil arrives late, it disrupts the entire class and the teacher – everyone’s education is compromised.

Further lateness may result in certain families being referred for truancy.  Parents have a duty to ensure their child’s regular attendance at school and failure to do so is an offence under Section 444(1) of the Education Act 1996.

The district’s Truancy Officer may be in contact with parents about this matter. Please help by ensuring that you have your child(ren) in school promptly.

Meanwhile, if anything can be done to support your student getting to school on time, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
